Excited for Mackinac Island

Day 10, Sunday, Sept. 14th, Blaney Park, MI to St. Agnace, MI, 72 miles, Total miles 623

What a great day to ride, not a cloud in the sky and high temps should be 70 degrees. On my way to St. Ignace, spend the night there close to the ferry departure to bring me and my bike over to Mackinac Island on Monday morning. I have never been there and have heard a lot about this island and Michigan”s first state park, that allows no cars and just walking and biking allowed on this 8 mile Long Island.

No, I did not stay here! Mine wasn’t much nicer.

I am making good time on these relatively flat straight roads on Highway 2. Nice smooth shoulder but so much traffic and the noise of vehicles flying by are starting to get to me! About 25 miles in, I stopped in Naubinway, hoping to see a cafe, no such luck, a microwaved Jimmy Dean egg sandwich from the gas station will have to do. I took it to go hoping to find a quiet place along Lake Michigan to enjoy it. About one block up the road I found the perfect place, Living Waters Prayer Chapel. A small one room chapel open to public and three wooden crosses overlooking the lake. Sunday morning, I said a prayer for family, loved ones, our country and for safe travels.

Paid my respects. Life is good!

Rode another 24 miles in to Brevort and stopped at a cafe for a Rueben sandwich and coke. Have another 25 miles to St. Ignace. It’s about 1:30pm now, so making good time. Had to put my ear pods in and listen to to some music to get away from the vehicle noise whizzing by me and the headwind is directly in my face, making the last few miles tough. Stopped in a small fish store and bought a chunk of smoked whitefish for my dinner tonight.

Got my smoked fish for dinner

Got upgraded to a hotel room at the Best Western overlooking the lake, about 20 yards away from the waves hitting the shoreline, so nice. Perfect room to watch the Vikings/Falcon game tonight.

Excited to take the ferry over to Mackinac Island and spend the day exploring and sightseeing.
