Day 6, Mercer, WI to Phelps, WI, 68 miles, Total miles 339
What is with all this rain! Over two inches on Tuesday with thunderstorms overnight. Had to take a rest day and wait it out. Mild morning with fog and 58 degrees, going to start my ride in shorts. A couple miles in it started to rain and drizzle starting again. Got my rain jacket on and covered my sleeping bag in an effort to keep it dry.

So happy I am on the Heart of Vilas County Bike Trail just to the side of Hwy 51. I will be on this paved smooth bike trail all the way to Boulder Junction 30 miles! I can see the cars and trucks on the highway wizzing by and the spray from the wet roads and fast moving vehicles would have gotten me soaked! So glad I am on this quiet bike trail. I don’t even mind the light rain and drizzle.

I did miss my turn off the trail into Manitowish Waters and went another two miles before I realized and turned around.🤪
I came up on a large biking group with over a dozen riders from Door County Bicycle Club, mostly on e-bikes, but one of them said he was 86 years old! Good for him!

Stopped for lunch at Aqualand Ale House for a chicken sandwich, no beer, just water. Off to Phelps, but will be off of bike trail and on wet roads. Looks like another 37 miles to go this afternoon and need to find a place to stay.
It was a roller coaster ride this afternoon, lots of ups and downs with rolling hills. Riding in light rain and drizzle most of the day, the roads and me never had a chance to dry out.

Found a room at only motel in town, the Phelps Lakeview Lodge. Was told I was lucky, all sold out tomorrow night. Enter Upper Michigan tomorrow.
