Small Towns Montana

Day 19, Sunday, Sept. 10th, Great Falls – Stanford, MT. Miles 63, Total 1,179. Elevation Gain 2,867’

I love some of these small towns in Montana! People all wave to you as you ride through their town and you can tell how proud they are of where they live.

My bike shadow in main street Stanford, MT population 401.
Had the best mushroom Swiss burger at The Water Hole Saloon
My last night in a motel for awhile. Going into remote places for next 150-200 miles and will be back in my tent. Where? Who knows.
Sundown Motel. I like it!!

Another great weather day, I am wondering how long it will last. Waiting for the 25 mph head wind to hit me soon somewhere in MT or ND? Played a game weaving in and out of rumble strips on shoulder of road and also trying to avoid running over all the grasshoppers.

Rumble strip right down the middle of my shoulder. What the heck!

Got off the main highway and down this ravine into a cool town, Belt, population 597. Lots of trophies game mounts around the whole perimeter of store.

This goes way down into Belt, MT. What is climb going to be like coming out? Wasn’t bad.
You know you are in a MT convenience store
Excuse me
A lot more of these throughout store.

Got low on water and saw a community yard sale in Raynesford. Pulled in and the ladies working the sale offered me lunch and sat down with me to ask questions. Mostly ranching and farming families. So kind!

Ladies and I having lunch.

I am now going remote after I get past Lewistown tomorrow. Going to be camping as there are no motels for the next 150-200 miles and little to no services. I need to be prepared with supplies. Hoping there will be somewhere to get some food. I will check back and update in a few days.

Straight roads
Still some ups and downs. This is a little one. But had a 7% grade climb, not fun. Anything over 6% is not fair!
